Mizzou Women’s Basketball was searching for that elusive 16th win of the season when they faced the LSU Lady Tigers Friday afternoon.In a game delayed by weather from Thursday evening, the Tigers faced LSU looking to get a win that would make them postseason eligible for the first time in 6 years. Unfortunately, Friday wasn’t that day as the Tigers fell in overtime 78-74.
The Tigers kept up with the Lady Tigers, but struggled to get past LSU when they had the chance. After trailing 15-7, the Tigers tied the game at both 17 and 19. However, the Lady Tigers of LSU outscored Mizzou 14-7 over the final 5 minutes of the first half to take a 35-26 lead.
In the second half, Missouri chipped away at LSU’s lead throughout the half. Every time the Tigers would make a run, the Lady Tigers had an answer. Missouri tied LSU at 66 on a Kyley Simmons three pointer with 1:13 left in the second half. Missouri took a brief 68-66 lead before foul trouble did them in. LSU took the lead at the free throw line and sealed the game in the same way.
Liene Priede led the Tigers with 18 points in the game. She was one of 3 Tigers in double figures in the game, with Bri Kulas scoring 17 and Liz Smith adding 15. Kulas, Sydney Crafton, and Morgan Eye tied for the team lead with 6 rebounds and Lianna Doty led the team with 5 assists before fouling out late in the second half.
Missouri will hit the road with only 3 games remaining to secure postseason eligibility. They’re on the lovliest villiage on the plains when they visit Auburn, AL Sunday afternoon to take on the Auburn Tigers.
