Tigers Fail First SEC Road Test

The Missouri Tigers never got going in a 31-10 defeat by the South Carolina Gamecocks.

Mizzou held the number 7 Gamecocks scoreless throughout the first quarter, including an impressive goal line stand that saw the SC drive stall at the 2.  Unfortunately, the Mizzou offense could not get the ball moving and the beginning of the second quarter brought two quick Marcus Lattimore TD’s, giving the Gamecocks a 14-0 lead.Mizzou would add a field goal late in the second quarter, but a 49 yard kick return by Ace Sanders on the ensuing possession would lead to South Carolina cashing in to take a 21-3 lead.

The second half wasn’t much better for the Tigers.  South Carolina had the Tiger offense scrambling much of the afternoon and they were unable to muster much of a comeback.  Corbin Berkstresser came in late for Mizzou and led the only TD drive of the game, but it was long after the contest was decided.

Connor Shaw was nearly perfect for the Gamecocks, going 20/21 on his throws, including 20 in a row.  James Franklin, who returned to the starting lineup, was 11/18for 92 yards in the air.

Mizzou falls to 2-2 on the season and heads back on the road next weekend to Orlando to take on the Central Florida Knights.  Tiger Gameday presented by Tucker’s Fine Jewelry comes your way beginning at 8am for the 11am kickoff on your home for Mizzou Athletics, ESPN 100.5 KTGR.
