After losing 64-49 in Oxford in January, the Missouri Tigers got a slight measure of revenge over Marshall Henderson and the Ole Miss Rebels.Missouri got a combined 65 points from Alex Oriakhi, Phil Pressey, and Keion Bell as the Tigers raced to a 98-79 victory over the Rebels Saturday afternoon.
Ole Miss took a 5-3 lead before the Tigers went on a 13-2 run to make it 16-7 and seize control of the game. Missouri would extend the lead to as much as 23 in the first half as the Tigers took a 50-34 lead into halftime.
Things got interesting halfway through the second half as Oriakhi tumbled to the ground. In the process, he grabbed the ankle of Mississippi’s Reginald Buckner, causing Buckner to apparently take a swing. Several players on both sides were involved in the scrap as well. After a nearly 12 minute delay, Buckner was ejected and techincal fouls were assessed to Oriakhi, Lawrence Bowers and Jabari Brown. Murphy Hollaway also picked up a technical. The Tigers responded by putting it on the Rebels and increasing the lead to the final 98-79 score.
Also, during the game, Phil Pressey became the all-time leader in Assists at Mizzou when he assisted Brown on a jumper to make the game 57-38. It was Pressey’s 498th assist of his career, passing Anthony Peeler’s mark of 497.
Pressey and Oriakhi shared the team lead in points with 22. Bell was right behind with 21. Brown (14) and Earnest Ross (10) were also in double figures. Oriakhi led the team with 18 rebounds, his career high. Pressey led the team with 4 assists.
Now the challenge begins for the Tigers. Four of their next five games are on the road, and it all gets started with a trip to Starkville, MS to take on Mississippi State Wednesday night at 7pm. Pregame begins at 6:30pm on your home for the Tigers, ESPN 100.5 and Total Sports Station 103.1 KTGR.
