For the second time this season, Mizzou had one of its players take home Player of the Week honors.
Keaton Steele was named SEC Player of the Week for his work this weekend in Athens, GA. It’s his second award this season after being named SEC Pitcher of the Week in March.
Steele’s 2 run HR on Friday provided all the offense the Tigers needed behind Rob Zastrysny on their way to a 4-0 win. For the weekend, he batted .545 with the one home run and extended his hitting streak to 8 games. Including Missouri’s game against Illinois, Steele batted .500.
He may have been more dominant on the mound, pitching 7 1/3 innings and allowing just 1 earned run in Missouri’s 8-5 comeback win Sunday afternoon. Steele retired the final 15 batters he faced in the contest and set career highs for longest outing and strikeouts in a game (9).
Steele and the Tigers return to action Tuesday when they face Missouri State at Hammonds Field beginning at 6:30pm. Pregame with Hunter Mense and Tex Little begins at 6:15pm on your home for Mizzou Baseball,ESPN 100.5 and 103.1 KTGR.
