For the second straight day, the St. Louis Cardinals were treated rudely as guests of the Baltimore Orioles.
The O’s crushed three home runs off starter John Lackey, and Baltimore tallied 13 other hits in a 10-3 win at Camden Yards.
Jhonny Peralta put the Redbirds on top with an RBI double in the first inning, on a play that ended with Matt Holliday called out trying to score a second run. That run eventually scored in the top of the second on a Jon Jay solo home run to make it 2-0.
From there, it was all Orioles, as a Caleb Joseph homer put Baltimore up 3-2 in the next half-inning. Nelson Cruz hit a two-run deep fly in the third for the home team, and despite Jay’s sacrifice fly in the fourth, the rout was on.
Lackey allowed nine runs on 13 hits in only five innings of work. Daniel Descalso went 3-for-3 in a rare start.
St. Louis looks to salvage a win in Baltimore Sunday afternoon. Lance Lynn opposes Kevin Gausman on the hill. Pregame coverage begins at 11:40 am on ESPN 103.1 and 1580 AM KTGR.
