Perhaps Missouri is the state of the catcher in Major League Baseball.St. Louis Cardinals backstop Yadier Molina and Kansas City Royals catcher Salvador Perez will both start for their teams in the annual All-Star Game in Minneapolis next week.
Molina won his starting job in a fan vote, while Perez is a substitute for Baltimore’s Matt Wieters, who is injured and can’t play in the game. They are joined as All-Stars by Cardinals starting pitcher Adam Wainwright, third baseman Matt Carpenter, and relief pitcher Pat Neshek. The Royals will also send outfielder Alex Gordon and closer Greg Holland to the All-Star Game.
Cardinals manager Mike Matheny will manage the National League club in the Midsummer Classic.
