Chris Getz had three hits as the Kansas City Royals defeated the Miami Marlins, 6-2, to ascend into second place in the AL Central.
Getz paired with Justin Maxwell with RBIs in a two-run fourth, but the Marlins tied the score in the sixth. KC countered with three in the bottom of the sixth on a triple by Alcides Escobar, and singles by Jarrod Dyson and David Lough.
Billy Butler homered for an insurance run in the seventh, as the Royals moved to 6.5 games back of Detroit and four out of the second Wild Card spot.
Kansas City and Miami meet for game two of the series, with Bruce Chen facing Jose Hernandez at 7:10 PM.
