Never count out the big home run at Coors Field.
Matt McBride hit a grand slam for the Colorado Rockies in the sixth inning, lifting them to a 5-2 win over the Kansas City Royals Wednesday night.
The visitors took an early 2-0 lead on Alex Gordon’s solo home run in the second and a sacrifice fly from Eric Kratz in the fourth. But in the bottom of the fourth a Wilin Rosario sacrifice fly cut the lead in half, and the Rockies pulled ahead for good on the grand slam, the first of McBride’s career.
Danny Duffy allowed the long fly and all five Colorado runs, though only one was earned after a Christian Colon throwing error helped load the bases in the sixth. Duffy allowed five hits and one walk with six strikeouts in seven innings of work.
After a day off, Kansas City starts a series Friday at the Texas Rangers. Yordano Ventura opposes Colby Lewis at 7:05 pm Friday night.
