Royals Offense Comes Alive in Eighth

Posted by willp on April 9, 2013

The Kansas City Royals used a three-run eighth inning to win their home opener, 3-1, on Monday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium.

After Lorenzo Cain led off the eighth with a double and was sacrified to third, Alex Gordon put the Royals on the board with a game-tying single. Gordon came around to score on an Alcides Escobar double, and Billy Butler singled Escobar in later in the frame.

Ervin Santana fueled KC from the mound, throwing eight innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts. Aaron Crow pitched a scoreless ninth with a strikeout and induced a game-ending double play for his first save.

The Royals play game two of the series Tuesday night with Jeremy Guthrie going for his second win against Mike Pelfrey at 7:10 PM.
