The normally-reliable Kansas City defense was absent in Minneapolis Tuesday night.
Two Royals errors led to four unearned runs, as the Minnesota Twins used big innings to cruise to a 10-2 win.
The teams traded runs early, as a Chris Parmelee RBI double in the first for the Twins was matched by an RBI single from Mike Moustakas in the top of the second inning. From there, it was all Minnesota. Kendrys Morales drove in a run on an infield single in the third following a KC error, and three runs came in for the Twins in the fourth.
Newly-signed Royal Raul Ibanez went 1-for-4 in his Kansas City debut, while starting pitcher James Shields took the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on nine hits in five innings of work.
Kansas City aims to win the series at Target Field Wednesday afternoon. Jason Vargas takes the hill for the Royals, against the Twins’ Kevin Correia.
