The Kansas City Royals lost a series to the team with the worst record in baseball, falling in the finale to the Houston Astros, 3-1, Wednesday night.
The Astros led wire-to-wire after a two-run home run by J.D. Martinez in the first inning. The Royals received their only offense from a fourth-inning George Kottaras RBI-double. Houston added an insurance run in the eighth on a Jason Castro double.
The Royals went under .500 for the second time in three days, and fell to 8-12 in the month of May. Kansas City hopes a trip back home can cure the skid, with a six-game homestand beginning Thursday night against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.
