Royals Lose Lead in Fenway Return

In the first game at Fenway Park since last Monday’s attack, the Royals tried to spoil the Red Sox return.Boston found a way to overcome Kelvin Herrera in the bottom of the 8th to drop the Royals 4-3 on Saturday.

Kansas City was in position for the win with RBI’s coming on a fifth inning single by Jeff Francouer and 7th inning triple by Salvador Perez, but in the bottom of the 8th, Daniel Nava homered to right field, scoring Johnny Gomes and Mike Napoli to give the Red Sox the 4-2 lead.  Lorenzo Cain homered to make the score 4-3, but the Royals were stopped by Andrew Bailey, who picked up his 3rd save of the season.

Herrera took the loss in the game.  James Shields pitched the first 6 innings, allowing 4 hits but just 1 run.  Aaron Crow pitched to just one batter, hitting Nava in the 6th inning.

KC and Boston will play a day/night doubleheader Sunday.  Saturday’s game was a makeup after the Red Sox postponed Friday’s game in conjunction with a city lockdown around Boston.  the first game will begin at 12:35pm followed by a game at 6pm Sunday evening.
