The Kansas City Royals scattered their nine hits but couldn’t mark against the Tampa Bay Rays, losing 1-0 Tuesday night.
KC loaded the bases in the third, sixth and eighth but could not score, dropping to 3-4 on the season. James Loney drove Wil Myers home on an RBI-single in the ninth inning, with Myers going into scoring position on a wild pitch.
The Royals wasted a gem of an outing from Yordano Ventura, with a career-high six innings in his 2014 debut. Ventura allowed just two hits with six strikeouts on 95 pitches.
Kansas City will try for the series win on Wednesday afternoon at 1:10 with Jeremy Guthrie facing former Royals farmhand Jake Odorizzi.
