The Kansas City Royals gained a game in the AL Wild Card race with a 7-1 win over the Cleveland Indians Monday night.
James Shields went six innings, allowing one run on six hits, striking out 10 batters. Salvador Perez drove in a run and collected three hits along with multi-hit games from David Lough, Alcides Escobar, Emilio Bonifacio and Billy Butler.
KC sits three back in the loss column and 2.5 games back of Texas, who took over the second Wild Card spot after losing to Tampa Bay Monday night.
The Royals continue their final series with the Indians with Yordano Ventura making his Major League debut against Corey Kluber.
