Royals Drop First Series In Two Weeks

The Kansas City Royals lost their series with the Oakland Athletics, dropping the finale, 10-4, Sunday afternoon.

Royals starter Luis Mendoza recorded only five outs, allowing five runs in the second inning. Bruce Chen and Will Smith were each pressed into long-relief and both allowed home runs.

KC had not lost a series since dropping two-of-three to the White Sox on June 21st through the 23rd.

The Royals, six games out in the AL Central, head to New York to start a four-game series Monday with the Yankees. Jeremy Guthrie faces Phil Hughes at 6:05 PM.
