Royals Come Back; Beat Tigers in Tenth

Lorenzo Cain was down to his final strike when he tied the game, and Eric Hosmer’s single won it in the 10th, as Kansas City defeated Detroit on getaway day, 3-2.

Cain’s third home run of the year drew the Royals even, and turned a tough-luck loss for James Shields into a no-decision. Hosmer drove home Miguel Tejada who led off the 10th with a single and the Royals took the series, two games out of three.

The win for Kansas City brought them within 5.5 games of first-place Detroit as they get out of town. The Royals begin a four-game series Thursday taking on the Tampa Bay Rays at 6:10 PM.
