The Boston Red Sox have defeated the St. Louis Cardinals in six games with a 6-1 victory in Game Six Wednesday night.
A pair of three-run innings helped the Red Sox capture their eighth title as Shane Victorino put Boston on the board with a second-inning three-run double, his first hit of the series. Stephen Drew led off the fourth inning with a solo home run, and Mike Napoli singled behind the intentionally-walked David Ortiz before Victorino singled another run home.
World Series MVP David Ortiz reached base with four walks, despite one strikeout, ending the series with a .688 batting average.
John Lackey pitched six and two-thirds innings, leaving with the bases loaded. Junichi Tazawa allowed a groundout to Allen Craig to end the last real Cardinals offensive threat.
