A four-run third inning propelled the Texas Rangers to a 7-2 victory in their series opener against the Kansas City Royals.
Adrian Beltre tied the score at one apiece with his third-inning single, and came home on a three-run homer later in the frame by Nelson Cruz. Leonys Martin doubled two men home in the sixth and Beltre drove in another with a seventh-inning solo home run.
Derek Holland allowed one run over seven innings for the win with eight strikeouts. The Royals closed out the month of May with a record of 8-20.
Kansas City hopes to start off June on the right foot with ace James Shields on the mound. He opposes former Missouri Tiger and Blue Springs, MO native Nick Tepesch at 3:05 PM.
