In what has become a recurring theme of 2013, the Cardinal bullpen fell apart late Saturday. St. Louis led 2-0 going to the seventh but ended up losing 5-3 to the Pittsburgh Pirates at Busch on Saturday.
In the bottom of the first, a Matt Holliday double play score Matt Carpenter. Pete Kozma added to the lead in the 6th. Carlos Beltran continued his hot hitting, driving in a run in the 9th to close the gap.
The Pirates took the lead in the 7th with 4 runs, the big blow being a 2 run home run by Russell Martin that tied the game. Martin would score an insurance run in the 8th on a Gabby Sanchez sac fly.
Jake Westbrook pitched 6 innings without allowing a run, striking out six. Joe Kelly entered in the 7th, allowing the four runs, and took the loss.
