However unjust, it’s no surprise Holliday’s an all-star and Jaime’s a snub.

Considering their recent struggles, where would the Cardinals be without Jaime Garcia? Garcia (8-4, 2.17) has an awful 4.43 ERA over his last four starts, yet still only Florida’s Josh Johnson (1.70) has been better this season. How does a guy with the second best ERA in the game not make the All-Star team? It’s a crime! Or is it?
Of the many All-Star game quandaries: Is it a “real game” or exhibition, should every player play, does every team really need to be represented? How / why a player is selected is not one of them. Simply put, the All-Star Game, is for… well All-Stars.
In 1993, Cal Ripken Jr started for the AL with a .229 avg. Why? Because he was Cal friggin’ Ripken! An unmistakable star. Yeah, Jaime got screwed; duh, it’s the way it’s always been. And not surprisingly, if you page though history the system benefits the Cardinals more often than not. Heck “The Wizard” was an All-Star six times in seasons which he batted less than .260. Have you seen the year A-ROD’s having? He was voted in with a whopping 12 hr’s. Ehemmm! Because HE’S A-ROD!!!
Jaime Garcia isn’t an all-star. Going into spring training we didn’t even know if he would make the team. Just like the BCS mess, it’s a beauty pageant, a popularity contest. Like it or not, what you did last year matters. Sorry, outside of St. Louis and fantasy geeks, nobody knows who Jamie Garcia is. Is it his fault he’s not captivating like Jason Heyward (who sucks by the way) no! But this is the way it’s always been, and always will be.
It’s the reason Matt Holiday was voted in by the players, it’s the reason Yadi is starting over McCann. Yet in Jaime’s case it killed ‘em… boo hoo!
Life isn’t fair. Hot chicks have it easier than fat ones, Kroenke’s kid gets a better shot in life than yours, “buck up Bart,” get over it and hope the game doesn’t end in a tie!
More Cards notes:
It’s obvious the Birds need to make a move, but at this point I’m lost as to where they should go. It was a starter, then a bat, now the bullpen. They’re a block of Swiss cheese. The Cardinals have one electric prospect, Shelby Miller. And the writers I respect out of STL are telling me that “MO” doesn’t want to part with him. So where does that leave us? The man who used to perform “deadline magic” now has the Reds on top of the division. “MO” landed Holliday last season, and that took top prospects like Brett Wallace; as stated not gonna happen this year. If it makes you feel any better, the last time the Cardinals were this bad… they barely made the playoffs and won the World Series.
