Mizzou Women Falter Late

The Mizzou women led for much of the game before a late charge by Minnesota.

Mizzou started the game on a 7-0 run and went back and forth with the Golden Gophers most of the second half.  In the end, the Tigers dropped their second straight conest, 59-54.

The Tigers never trailed in the first half, taking a 28-23 lead into the break.  Minnesota tied the game with 11:35 remaining in the second half, but the Tigers wouldn’t go away.  Liene Priede gave the Tigers a 53-49 lead with 2 minutes remaining, but Kayla Hirt and Rachel Banham sealed the game for Minnesota with late buckets.

Lianna Doty led the Tigers with 16 points and 6 assists in the game.  She was one of 3 Tigers in double figures in the game, with Sydney Crafton and Briana Kulas scoring 14 and 10, respectively.  Liz Smith led the team with 9 rebounds in the game.

Minnesota was led by Banham and Hirt, who scored 20 and 14 points.

Mizzou is now 4-2 on the season and looks to get back in the win column Thursday evening when they host the SE Missouri State Redhawks at Mizzou Arena.  Tip off is at 7pm and we’ll have pregame beginning at 645pm on your home for Mizzou women’s basketball, ESPN 100.5 and Total Sports Station 103.1 KTGR.
