Mizzou notches first SEC Victory
While both teams got off to a rough start in the game, it was the Missouri Tigers who emerged victorious Saturday afternoon.
Missouri’s offense got off to a slow start again against the Wildcats, but it was the Missouri defense who shined in the game, forcing 3 fumbles as the Tigers rumbled to a 33-10 win.
Missouri DT Sheldon Richardson set the tone early when he rumbled 50 yards after stripping Jonathan George, setting up Kendial Lawrence’s first touchdown of the afternoon. Lawrence would score again in the second quarter to give the Tigers a 17-10 halftime lead. The Mizzou senior would finish with 108 yards on the day.
In the second half, and with Corbin Berkstresser struggling, James Franklin entered the game and seemed to steady the ship for the Tigers. Marcus Murphy, who muffed two punts in the game (losing one), scored the only offensive TD of the second half on a 9 yard run.
A game that featured 11 different fumbles between the two teams (Missouri recovered 3 of Kentucky’s fumbles), EJ Gaines salted the victory away with a 13 yard scoop and score for the final tally.
With the win, the Tigers move to 4-4 on the season and are now 1-4 in the SEC. They’ll travel to Gainsville, FL next weekend to take on the Florida Gators in another SEC East battle. It’ll be the fourth top 10 opponent for the Tigers this season.
Will Palaszczuk will have more Monday morning at 8am on the Monday Morning QB show on your home for the Missouri Tigers, ESPN 100.5 and 103.1 KTGR.
