Mizzou Earns First SEC Win in Basketball

Following the lead of the Women’s team on Sunday, the Mizzou Men kept the Tigers undefeated at Mizzou Arena this year Tuesday evening.Missouri started strong, racing to a 13-5 lead early in the game and never trailed by more than 3 the entire game, on their way to an 84-68 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide for their first ever SEC basketball victory.

Missouri trailed only briefly in the game, and both times a 3 pointer took the lead away from the Tide.  The first three was good by Earnest Ross and tied the game at 23.  The second 3, by Jabari Brown, gave the Tigers a 29-28 lead, one they wouldn’t relinquish for the remainder of the game.

5 Tigers were in double figures for the game, led by Brown’s 22 points.  Joining him were Earnest Ross (19), Lawrence Bowers (16), Alex Oriakhi (16), and Phil Pressey (11).  Oriakhi and Pressey each had another double double with Oriakhi’s 10 rebounds and Pressey’s 13 assists.

Trevor Releford led the Crimson Tide with 26 points.

Missouri improves to 1-0 in the SEC this season and is 12-2 overall on the year.  They’re in action this Saturday as they head to Oxford, MS to take on the Ole Miss Rebels.  Pregame begins at 7:30pm with tipoff of the game at 8pm on your home for Mizzou basketball, ESPN 100.5 and Total Sports Station 103.1 KTGR.
