In their first game of the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament (an exempt game), the Tigers took on the Alcorn State Braves.
Phil Pressey led the Tigers with 21 points and Alex Oriakhi had 10 rebounds as Mizzou overcame a sluggish start to defeat the Braves 91-54 Tuesday night at Mizzou Arena.
Along with Pressy’s 21, Lawrence Bowers had 14 points, Oriakhi added 12, and Earnest Ross had 17 points. Ross tied Oriakhi with 10 rebounds and Stefan Jankovic led the team with 4 assists. Negus Webster-Chan led the team with 11 rebounds in the game.
With just under 2 minutes left in the first half, the Tigers led just 25-23, but a 3 pointer by Pressey with 2 seconds remaining put the Tigers up 30-23 at half. They’d use a 17-5 run to go up 47-28 at the first media timeout of the second half and never look back.
Alcorn State was led by LeAntwan Luckett with 14 points.
Missouri improves to 2-0 on the young season and has one final tuneup before headed to Nassau as they welcome Nichols State to Mizzou Arena Friday night. Tipoff comes at 7pm and our pregame coverage begins at 630pm on your home for the Tigers, ESPN 100.5 and your Total Sports Station 103.1 KTGR.
