Trailing by 8 at halftime, the Tigers found a way to overcome South Carolina in the second half.Mizzou sealed the game with 14 seconds remaining on a Jabari Brown 3 pointer fromt he left corner as the Tigers defeated the Gamecocks 71-65 Tuesday night.
Missouri had a cold shooting night, shooting just 20% from the floor in the first half, and 5 of 27 (18.5%) overall from 3 point range in the game.That didn’t matter late in the game as the Tigers took the lead on an Earnest Ross 3 and sealed it with the Brown 3 with under a minute to go.
The Tigers also had a 20-2 run in the second half, after getting down by as many as 13 points. The run put the Tigers up 5, but the Gamecocks came back time and time again.
Ross and Alex Oriakhi both had double doubles in the game. Ross had 21 points and 10 rebounds in the game while Oriakhi poured in 18 and 11. Jabari Brown was the only other Tiger in double figures, scoring 17. Phil Pressey once again led the team in assists with 7. Oriakhi’s 11 rebounds were a team high.
Missouri improves to 3-2 in SEC play and is now 14-4 on the season overall. They’re back at home this Saturday against Vanderbilt at Mizzou Arena. Tip-off of the game is at 4pm with pregame beginning at 3:30pm on your home for Mizzou basketball, ESPN 100.5 and Total Sports Station 103.1 KTGR.
