Mizzou Baseball Falls to Auburn in Series Opener

Luke Mann vs. Auburn

COLUMBIA, Mo. – Mizzou Baseball (14-34, 7-21 SEC) dropped the series opener against Auburn (24-25, 9-19 SEC) by a 15-6 final on Thursday night at Taylor Stadium.

Auburn opened the scoring in the second, benefiting from a hop off the cut of the grass to put a runner aboard and pushing the game’s first marker across with a sacrifice fly. A two-out double made it 2-0 in favor of the visiting Tigers.

Auburn added single runs in the third and fifth innings to stretch its advantage to 4-0. A four-spot for Auburn in the sixth broke the game open as the visitors built the lead to 8-0. The Auburn bats went on to rack up 15 runs on 14 hits on the night.

Redshirt sophomore Luke Mann lifted a two-run home run in the seventh to get Mizzou on the board. The long ball was Mann’s third in as many games. Mizzou would plate two more runs in the eighth on RBI-knocks from sophomore Torin Montgomery and senior Brandt Belk.

Mann added his second home run of the day to lead off the ninth. Junior Tre Morris added an RBI-single to cap the scoring.

Head coach Steve Bieser on turning the page to game two…

“Definitely not the way we wanted to start this series off. We’ve been in this boat before where we’ve come out and lay an egg in game one and we’ve been able to bounce back so that’s really the focus now. We can’t control what just happened but I know that we need a better effort tomorrow.”

#MIZ TAKEAWAYS
