The Missouri Tigers were rudely welcomed in their baseball opener in Alabama, falling 9-7 Friday night.
Eric Anderson was moved up to make his first Friday night start of the year, allowing two earned through five innings. The main culprit was a seven-run seventh from the Crimson Tide, that featured six consecutive Alabama hits.
Missouri scored finally in the eighth on a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch from Michael McGraw and a pinch-hit RBI-single by Jake Ivory. The Tigers pushed across their third run on a bases-loaded balk, and then Josh Lester singled home two more.
The Tigers loaded the bases with nobody out in the ninth, scoring on a one-out wild pitch, and a two-out walk to Ivory re-loaded the bases. Shane Segovia drew a bases-loaded walk to bring the Tigers within two, but Lester struck out to end the ballgame.
The Tigers dropped into a tie for fifth with Tennessee after the Volunteers beat Arkansas 8-3. Missouri and Alabama resume their series at 1:05 Saturday, with coverage on KTGR at 12:50.
