Kewpies Open Gym with Streak Busting Win

It was the first game ever at Hickman’s new gymnasium.  It’ll be a game they’ll talk about for years to come.Hickman led at the end of every quarter and snapped a 21 game losing streak to Rock Bridge as the Kewpies defeated the Bruins 55-48 Tuesday night on the north side of Columbia.

It looked like the Bruins would be tied at the end of the first, but Douglas Johnson hit a twisting 3 pointer at the buzzer to give the Kewpies a 16-14 lead at the end of one.  It was a foreshadowing of things to come in the rest of the game.

Hickman was led by Jimmy Whitt, who had a key block in the 4th quarter, with 15 points.  Cecil Williams added another 14 for the Kewpies in the win.  Ryan Kreklow had 20 points in the loss for the Bruins.

Rock Bridge is 2-2 on the season while the Kewpies improve to 7-1.  The Kewpies will be back on the airways in the High School game of the week January 4th when they host Quincy Notre Dame out of Quincy, Ill.  Pregame comes your way at 7:30pm on your home for the Kewpies and Bruins, ESPN 100.5 and Total Sports Station 103.1 KTGR.
