It came down to the final seconds, but the Hickman Kewpies won the Providence Bowl 22-21.
Hickman trailed by 11 early in the 4th quarter but two touchdown passes by Mason Murphy gave the Kewpies the late one point lead. The go-ahead touchdown was a 19 yard pass to Grant Jones with 1:13 remaining in the game. On the night, Murphy was 5 of 8 for 91 yards. Devin Larry led all running backs with 93 yards on 23 carries.
Logan Twehous led the Rock Bridge attack throughout the evening completing 15 of 28 passes for 278 yards and 2 TD passes. His top target was Alex Ofodile, who had 9 cataches for 178 yards.
Both teams went back and forth throughout the game, the Bruins leading throughout the game until Jones’ TD catch in the 4th quarter. Rock Bridge wasn’t done, however, as they marched down the field in a desperate attempt to steal their win back.
On a 4th down throw from the Kewpie 45, Alex Ofodile made a 33 yard reception to give the Bruins new life. Rock Bridge couldn’t punch it in the end zone and Joe Barbee’s 29 yard kick sailed wide left as time expired and the Kewpies had their first win in the Providence Bowl since 2008.
The Kewpies improve to 5-0 for the first time since 2000 and head to Atkins Stadium next Friday to take on the 5-0 Jeff City Jays. Rock Bridge falls to 3-2 on the season and welcomes Helias to the south side of Providence.
