The National League’s leading hitter and RBI-man struck again Tuesday night as Allen Craig led the St. Louis Cardinals with two RBI in a 4-1 victory.
The Cardinals struck in the opening inning when Craig drove in a run on a fielder’s choice groundout. St. Louis added two in the fourth with RBI from Yadier Molina and David Freese, while Craig singled home another in the seventh.
Craig leads the league with 79 runs driven in and is tied with Molina for the National League lead in batting average at .335. Shelby Miller pitched for the first time in 10 days, going six scoreless for his 10th win.
The Redbirds kept pace with the Pirates and maintained a 1.5 game lead over Pittsburgh in the NL Central. Game two of the series between the Cardinals and Phillies takes place Wednesday evening with Jake Westbrook facing John Lannan. Hear the game on ESPN 100.5 and 103.1 KTGR.
