Chiefs Open Reid Era With Win

The Kansas City Chiefs made sure they shed the image of their previous season of 2-14 with a 28-2 rout of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Despite opening the game with blocked punt out of the end zone for a safety, the Chiefs responded with two first quarter touchdown passes from Alex Smith to Donnie Avery and Junior Hemingway. Jamaal Charles capped a 77-yard day with a two-yard touchdown run in the second quarter.

The Chiefs intercepted former Missouri Tiger Blaine Gabbert twice, including one returned for a touchdown by Tamba Hali. Gabbert didn’t finish the game, as a cut on his throwing hand ended his day early.

The Chiefs will play their home opener on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys at noon.
