Alex Smith threw for 225 yards and two touchdowns and the Chiefs defense held the Browns to one second half score, gritting out a 23-17 victory to move to 8-0.

KC jumped out to a 13-0 lead behind two Ryan Succop field goals and the first of the two Smith TD passes. The Chiefs held a 20-10 lead at halftime, with the D stiffening up forcing a recovered fumble and a turnover on downs late in the fourth.

Kansas City has a visit to Buffalo standing between them and their first meeting with division rival Denver, who improved to 7-1 with a win over the Washington Redskins. The Broncos come in to their matchup with the Chiefs off a bye week next week.

The Chiefs and Bills kick at noon on Sunday at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
