Posted by bfreeman on September 24, 2012

On the strength of 6 Ryan Succop field goals, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the New Orleans Saints 27-24 in overtime.

The Chiefs trailed at one point 24-6 before the defense shut down the always potent Saints offense in the fourth quarter.  They scored 11 fourth quarter points, including a critical safety on a sack of QB Drew Brees by Justin Houston.

Succop hit FG’s of 25, 45, 34, 38, 43, and the GW distance of 31 yards and shared honors with Jamal Charles as the obvious player of the game.  Charles had 33 carries for 233 yards and a 91 yard TD.  He added 55 yards of receiving to his total, giving him 288 yards of total offense against the Saints.

KC got the much needed win in a battle of 0-2 teams and at 1-2, they welcome the San Diego Chargers to Arrowhead Stadium next Sunday for an important AFC West showdown beginning at 1pm.
