The NHL All Star Game has always been a goal fest but sunday was just silly

I still stand by my argument that the NHL is the only one of the 4 major sports that gets it right when it comes to their All Star Game. MLB would be a close second, except the fact that the winner earns home field in the World Series. That is a topic for a different blog.

The Pro Bowl is the absolute worst. I don’t know what they need to do there but what we saw on Sunday was a joke. Oh boy they tweeted from the sidelines! So what!

The NHL had always had the Eastern conference vs the Western Conference, then the Olyumpics came into play and they went with North America vs The World….that was fun but still didn’t build the rivalry or make the game seem as important as it did when you had the conference set up. There was nothing better than seeing “MY” favorite player or just any player or players wearing “MY” teams logo on their All Star sweater. there was an added excitement as a kid to the game. Now, maybe part of the tarnish in my opinion is that i am not a kid any more. I do give the NHL props for looking for new and different ways to add something to the ASG. The Fantasy format idea is a great one but still something missing when you have to go by “Team Chara” and “Team Alfredsson”…I still only cheered for Alfie’s team because the Blues Brian Elliot was in goal for the 3rd period.

There was absolutely ZERO defensive effort on anyones part. I understand that you aren’t going to check and hit the same way you would on a normal NHL contest but guys would barely put their stick in front of a play to make a stop.

I would almost rather just see the skills competition and no game than what the NHL and NFL roll out there as their All Star Games.

There has got to be some way to make this better! What that solution is? I have not a clue. I completely understand that I would be very upset if my star goalie or top center blows out a knee or takes a slapper off the face all in the name of the All Star Game but it just isn’t the same…

How do you or what would you do if you were the Commish?

-thanks for reading my ramblings….Cosmo die hard Blues fan

when the NHL went to the fantasy draft format I was excited about that angle to the game.

The Missouri Tigers recorded their most unlikely victory in my time here at Mizzou, and truth be told, hindsight doesn’t make it seem that unexpected.

There had to be a couple of constants working in this game that needed to happen for Mizzou in order to win;

1) Mizzou had to start better than they did in Manhattan;

2) The Tigers had to force Baylor to shoot 17 and 19 foot jump shots instead of anything from 10 feet and in;

3) Mizzou had to outrebound Baylor;

4) Frank Haith had to out-coach Scott Drew;

Individually, all possible, but together? Unlikely but possible.

Missouri also needed Phil Pressey to show why he’s Bernstein of the most entertaining orchestra of college basketball, and also needed Ricardo Ratliffe to continue to be the bastion of offensive consistency.

Really, why did none of us see this coming?

Because, unfortunately, observers and fans of Missouri are continuously conditioned to hope for the best and expect the worst. Games like Saturday are not supposed to come for the fans of Columbia, Missouri.

Thom’s “Mizzou-ing” philosophy allows for the Tigers to win one game they shouldn’t, lose one they shouldn’t and nothing more or less.

I thought I had fully bought in after the ODU game, but now I’ve put every chip in the center, this has the potential to be not only to be a landmark season for the Tigers, but one of the best in recent memory or ever.

I realize I’m leaving no room for a loss at Allen Fieldhouse, or a letdown defeat at OSU Wednesday, but this team’s success is bigger than what they accomplished on Saturday in Waco. Frank Haith pulled his team off the floor at the Ferrell Center at the first sign of celebration, he and they expect to win, and they will.

I’m not saying the Tigers will win the National Champioinship, I’m not even saying they’ll make it to the Final Four. I’m saying the time for pessimism is over. These guys can ball, and do it very admirably.

It’s time to shut up and enjoy the ride, because the opportunities are endless for a team that has as much faith in Haith as this “Magnificent Seven”.

TJ Oshie scores late in the third for the lone goal of the game.

The Blues are now ties with the Rangers and Blackhawks for the best record in the NHL.

The move to hire Ken Hitchcock as the Blues coach has certainly paid off.

Can this team really make a push for a Stanley Cup in 2012?
