The St. Louis Cardinals won back-to-back series for the first time in August with a 6-1 win over the Chicago Cubs Sunday afternoon.
Jon Jay started a three-run second with an RBI-single, and Matt Carpenter did the rest with a two-run double. Jay had the big blow in the ballgame with a three-run opposite field home run in the seventh.
Adam Wainwright struck out 11 batters, just his third double-digit strikeout effort this season for his first win in almost a month. His last win on July 21st against San Diego was part of the last back-to-back series victories for the Redbirds, when they went 5-1 over San Diego and Philadelphia.
The Cardinals climb to just one game out of first place behind Pittsburgh, which lost in 16 innings to Arizona. St. Louis heads to Milwaukee for a three-game series with the Brewers, and you can hear the game on KTGR at 6:20
