Trade Deadline day in Major League Baseball came with a shock to some fans of the St. Louis Cardinals.
The club announced Tuesday morning it had traded outfielder Tommy Pham and international cap money to Tampa Bay for three minor-leaguers: outfielder Justin Williams, left-handed pitcher Genesis Cabrera and right-handed pitcher Roel Ramirez.
Pham had been a Cardinal for his whole career since being drafted in 2006. He is batting .248 this season with 14 home runs and 41 RBIs. The 22-year-old Williams made his MLB debut earlier this season, and is hitting .258 with eight home runs and 46 RBIs at the AAA level.
Reports say the three players St. Louis acquired in the deal are all expected to report to minor-league destinations.
