Cards Sweep Astros With Late Homer

Matt Carpenter’s two-run, seventh-inning homer turned a one-run deficit into a 5-4 St. Louis Cardinals victory over the Houston Astros Wednesday night.

The Astros had broken a 3-3 tie in the top of the frame with a Brett Wallace RBI-single. Trevor Rosenthal and Edward Mujica came in and shut the door in the eighth and ninth innings.

The Cards kept a game and a half lead over Pittsburgh who won 5-0 over the Oakland Athletics. The Redbirds head to Chicago to take on the Cubs, with Jake Westbrook facing Edwin Jackson at 6:10 on KTGR.
