Cards Sign Utility Infielder Wigginton

The St. Louis Cardinals have signed veteran utility-man Ty Wigginton to a two-year contract.

Wigginton will make $5 million over the next two years playing for his eighth MLB team at the start of his 12th Big League season. The 35-year-old Wigginton hit 11 home runs and 42 RBIs while hitting .235 in 125 games last year in Philadelphia.

His best year offensively came in 2008, where he hit 23 homers and drove in 58 runs while hitting .285. Wigginton has surpassed 20 home runs four times in his career.

Wigginton has seen time at every infield position other than catcher, and has spent time in the outfield.
