Cards Shut Out Brewers In Opener

Jon Jay’s three-run homer backed Lance Lynn’s seven innings of shutout ball as the Cardinals shut out the Brewers, 4-0, Monday night.

Lynn struck out 11, bucking the trend that he needed run support in order to get wins. The Cardinals took the lead in the first on a solo home run by Jhonny Peralta, following up his two-hit performance on Sunday.

Jay’s homer backed up Lynn, and Carlos Martinez threw two shutout innings to complete the victory.

The win snapped Milwaukee’s nine-game winning streak, and brought the Cardinals within two games of first place. Game two of the series features Shelby Miller against Marcos Estrada, with coverage on ESPN 103.1 and 1580 AM KTGR at 6:15 PM Tuesday.
