The days of Bud Norris silencing the Cardinals may be over as the Redbirds tagged him for seven runs on 11 hits in a 9-5 Tuesday night victory.
Matt Holliday started the Cardinals off right with a two-run, first-inning homer, with Matt Carpenter adding an RBI in the second and two more in the fourth. Carlos Beltran drove in another fourth inning run with Jon Jay adding a run-scoring single in the fifth. Allen Craig padded lead with RBI in the sixth and eighth innings.
Adam Wainwright becomes the first Cardinal and second NL pitcher overall (Jordan Zimmerman, WSH) to reach 12 wins. Wainwright struck out nine in seven innings allowing only one run. The Astros added four in the ninth off Kevin Siegrist and Michael Blazek, but couldn’t come closer than that.
St. Louis increased their first-place lead over Pittsburgh to 1.5 games in the NL Central. The Cards conclude their two-game series with Houston on Wednesday, with coverage at 6:20 PM on KTGR.
