The S. Louis Cardinals season will be extended until at least Friday, thanks to a Dodgers loss, and despite a 3-1 defeat of their own to Cincinnati Tuesday night.
After a sacrifice fly from Matt Holliday scored Jon Jay in the first the Cards bats went cold. Cincinnati struck with a game-tying home run by Scott Rolen in the fourth, and Jay Bruce and Dioner Navarro gave the Reds the lead with RBI-singles in the sixth.
St. Louis needed a win or a Los Angeles loss to prevent having to play a one-game playoff at Chavez Ravine. instead they will play the NL Play-In Game on Friday in Atlanta.
The Redbirds will tentatively send Adam Wainwright to the hill against Homer Bailey for the regular season finale. Coverage on KTGR begins at 6:20 PM.
