The St. Louis Cardinals led wire-to-wire in a second consecutive rout of the Nationals, winning 8-0 to take a 2-1 lead in the NLDS best-of-five series.
Allen Craig doubled in the first run in the opening frame and Pete Kozma’s first career postseason home run gave the Cardinals plenty of cushion early. Chris Carpenter induced nine fly ball outs as he kept the Nationals off balance despite allowing seven hits.
The Nationals finished the day 0-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and are 3-for-24 in the series in those situations.
Matt Holliday collected his first three hits of the series, driving in a pair of insurance runs in the eighth inning.
The Cardinals go for a potential series-clincher Thursday with Kyle Lohse on the hill against Ross Detwiler. Lohse last pitched for the Redbirds on Friday in the National League Wild Card Game.
Coverage of Game Four can be heard on ESPN 100.5 KTGR FM beginning at 2:12 Thursday afternoon.
