The St. Louis Cardinals made it two straight over the Kansas City Royals, with a 4-1 victory Tuesday night.
The Redbirds led wire-to-wire, as for the second straight night, St. Louis’ second batter of the game delivered a two-run homer. Carlos Beltran’s blast was his 11th of the year, but also for the second straight day the Royals countered with a first inning run to cut the lead in half.
That was the only offense KC delivered, though, and St. Louis added two more on solo home runs from Matt Carpenter and Matt Holliday in the sixth.
Tyler Lyons allowed the lone run on two Kansas City hits with five strikeouts in seven innings of work. Trevor Rosenthal and Edward Mujica each turned in perfect frames with Mujica staying perfect in save opportunities turning in his 16th.
The Royals have dropped seven in a row, 11 of 12, and fell to a league worst 7-18 in May.
The series shifts to Busch Stadium in St. Louis for Wednesday and Thursday, with Lance Lynn of the Cardinals facing KC’s Luis Mendoza. Pregame coverage begins on ESPN 100.5 and 103.1 KTGR at 6:20 PM.
