A seven-run fourth inning blazed the trail for a St. Louis Cardinals blowout, as they cruised to a 13-5 victory over the Houston Astros.

Allen Craig started the rally with an RBI single, and after Lucas Harrell walked the bases loaded, he forced in another run with a walk to Jon Jay. Pete Kozma singled the next run home, and Matt Carpenter tripled home the rest. Carpenter came home on a Yadier Molina single to complete the rally.

The Cards padded their lead with three consecutive innings of two-run homers in the sixth through eighth from Carlos Beltran, David Freese and Craig.

Jake Westbrook didn’t have to sweat much in the Texas heat despite allowing four runs in six innings, holding on for his fourth win.

The Redbirds try for the sweep Wednesday with Lance Lynn facing Erik Bedard. Coverage can be heard on KTGR beginning at 6:15 PM.
