Cards Blitzed in Home Opener

The St. Louis Cardinals bullpen turned a tie game into a laugher allowing nine runs in the ninth to fall to the Reds 13-4.

Brandon Phillips, who homered earlier in the game, started the rally with a tie-breaking double to give the Reds a 5-4 lead. Todd Frazier, Jack Hannahan, Ryan Hannigan and Cesar Izturis all offered RBIs until the big blow game from Shin-Soo Choo who drove in three.

Mitchell Boggs suffered the loss, and Helias HS grad Sam LeCure earned the victory with a scoreless eighth.

Coverage for game two of the series begins at 6:20 with Lance Lynn facing Bronson Arroyo Tuesday night.
