The St. Louis Cardinals used a five-run fifth inning outburst in part to blow out the Philadelphia Phillies with an 11-3 victory Wednesday night.
Matt Adams had two RBI in the second and three overall, while Shane Robinson earned all three of his runs driven in on his fifth-inning triple. The Cardinals also had a three-hit night from Yadier Molina as he re-took the NL Batting Average lead at .339.
Jake Westbrook did work in both phases of the game with seven innings pitched and three runs allowed along with a walk at the plate, a stolen base and a run scored.
The Cardinals kept pace with Pittsburgh who beat Washington for the third straight night, maintaining a 1.5 game lead in the NL Central. St. Louis sends Lance Lynn to the hill against Kyle Kendrick with the KTGR pregame beginning at 5:20 PM.
