The St. Louis Cardinals gained back sole possession at first place in the NL Central, leading 10-0 at one point, and cruising to an 11-4 victory Tuesday.
Matt Holliday reached base five times and drove in three with four hits, including his 30th double and 20th home run on the year. Matt Carpenter, Yadier Molina and Daniel Descalsco each drove in two runs apiece.
The Cardinals took back first place as the Pirates lost 5-2 to the San Diego Padres.
With the series tied at one game apiece, game three of four takes place Wednesday between St. Louis and Colorado. Adam Wainwright faces Tyler Chatwood, with coverage at 6:45 on KTGR.
