Cardinals Fall Late to Boston

Tuesday night, St. Louis got a late run to win a game against Boston. Wednesday, the tables were turned.

Xander Bogaerts hit a sacrifice fly in the ninth, and the Red Sox escaped Busch Stadium with a 2-1 win. The lone Redbird run came in the first, when Matt Adams drove home Matt Carpenter for an early lead.

From there, Joe Kelly settled in against his former teammates, and Shelby Miller did the same against Boston. Miller worked for seven innings allowing one run on four hits, with one walk and four strikeouts. St. Louis had its chances, but went 1-for-10 with runners in scoring position, and left seven runners on base.

The rubber game of the series will be contested Thursday night, when Adam Wainwright pitches against Brandon Workman.Pregame coverage begins at 5:20 on ESPN 103.1 and 1580 AM KTGR.
