St. Louis picked up its first series win of the year Wednesday afternoon.Opening Day may not have gone as well, but the Redbirds took the series from the visiting Cincinnati Reds with a 10-0 win.
The contest was a pitchers duel through the first four innings of the game before the St. Louis offense exploded for four runs in the fifth and sixth innings, adding a deuce in the 7th to cap the scoring in the game.
Jake Westbrook pitched a complete game 5-hitter, striking out 3 and walking 4 while blanking the Reds. His season record now evens out at 1-1.
St. Louis improves to 5-4 on the season and has Thursday off before welcoming the Milwaukee Brewers to Busch Stadium for the first matchup of the season between the two NL Central rivals. Things get underway with pregame at 7:20pm Friday on 900AM.
