Rock Bridge got out to the early lead, but once the Hawklets took it, they didn’t give it back.
Rock Bridge led the game 21-14 at halftime, but after the break, the Hawklets turned up the heat on Logan Twehous and the Bruin offense. They surged ahead in the 3rd quarter and held on for a 38-21 victory in Columbia.
The Bruins took advantage of a sloppy first half by the Hawklets, turning 2 Rockhurst fumbles into 14 points on short drives, including an 88 yard TD pass to Alex Ofodile. The area’s leading receiver finished the game with 4 catches for 97 yards and the one TD.
It was a contrast of styles between the two teams. Rock Bridge scored all 3 of their TD’s on drives that took fewer than 5 plays, while the Hawklets churned up the clock on double digit drives that all culminated in scoring plays for coach Tony Severino.
On the day, Twehous was 16/38 for 308 yards and 3 TDs. He added to his lead leading 1420 yards coming into the game. Rock Bridge falls to 4-3 on the season and will stay at home next week for the Bruins Homecoming game against Liberty. That game will kick at 7pm next Friday and can be heard on bruinathletics.com.
